Glenn Hughes is home after eight days in hospital and a 10-hour open-heart operation.

The 75-year-old shared the update in an Instagram post on Friday, Oct. 16. He said he had an aortic valve replacement, an operation to replace the valve that controls blood flow out of the heart, at UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center in Westwood, Los Angeles, as reported by Billboard.

Hughes said it was the same procedure he had in 2013. He described himself as now home after the long stay and operation. He is recovering.

In messages posted to his official Facebook page and his website, he wrote of “gratitude beyond” after the surgery. The website message, titled ‘Now Home’, was published on Thursday, Oct. 15. In it, he thanked surgeon Dr. Richard Shemin and his team.

He said he is getting his energy back each day as he moves forward. The tone of the updates is restful and thankful. No further medical detail was given.

The operation follows his step back from live work. In August, Hughes announced he was retiring from touring with immediate effect and called off a planned six-week tour because of health issues. He said the decision was made on his doctor’s advice because he needed heart surgery.

He said at the time that he would step back from live performances for the foreseeable future and that he needed another open-heart surgery, according to his August statement. The formal announcement of his retirement from touring and live performances was dated Aug. 4, 2026.

That decision had been signalled earlier in the year. On Jan. 9, Hughes cancelled his 2026 touring plans to address a health issue over the coming months.

For fans, this means the focus is on recovery at home, not on the road. No new live dates have been confirmed. His latest notes ask for time and thank those who sent support.
