Roland Mouret Says a Misdirected Call Cost Him Meghan as a Client

Fashion designer Roland Mouret says a call to the wrong royal office ended his working relationship with Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.
The account comes in his forthcoming memoir, I Am Roland Mouret: The Butcher's Boy Who Dressed the World. Mouret describes a falling-out that started over the return of a dress, as reported by Town & Country.
According to Mouret, a member of his staff contacted the office of Catherine, Princess of Wales — then the Duchess of Cambridge — instead of Meghan's office. It was a routing error. It landed hard.
Mouret writes that Meghan called him furious. "You don't realise what you've done! You've embarrassed me," she said. He writes that she then told him, "You know now I can never wear your clothes again."
He is clear on one point. The decision to stop wearing his designs was hers, he states, not the palace's or anybody else's.
That history matters because Mouret dressed Meghan for a high-profile moment. She arrived at her hotel the night before her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry wearing a navy Roland Mouret dress. The look was widely photographed and widely copied.
The break did not hold in every sense. Meghan wore a Roland Mouret design in a February 2026 promotional image for As Ever, her lifestyle brand. She later posed for a black-and-white photo in a strapless, plunging Roland Mouret dress to reveal an upcoming As Ever launch, a moment covered by InStyle. That sheer dress was a rewear, something Mouret has praised her for in the past as outside the norm for many celebrities.
Catherine has a long history with the designer as well. Catherine, Princess of Wales, has been wearing Roland Mouret designs since 2013, according to HELLO!.
What makes this stand out is how small the trigger was. No public statement. No palace order. By Mouret's telling, one misdirected staff call created an embarrassment he could not undo.
The memoir was acquired by Quercus and is scheduled for publication in October 2026, according to The Bookseller. Quercus non-fiction publisher Kate Hewson is managing publication. Mouret previously authored Roland Mouret: Provoke, Attract, Seduce, published by Rizzoli.
Buckingham Palace has not publicly addressed Mouret's account.
