Fourth Wing finds its leads for Amazon Prime Video adaptation

Amazon Prime Video has found its Violet and Xaden.
Emilio Sakraya will play Xaden Riorson and Esther McGregor will play Violet Sorrengail in the Fourth Wing television adaptation, as reported by Variety. They are the two central characters in Rebecca Yarros' book series about magic-wielding dragon riders. The announcement settles the casting question that matters most to readers following the project to screen. Both leads were named together, which gives the production its centre in one go.
The adaptation has been ordered to series at Amazon, a straight-to-series order meaning the streamer commits to a full season without making a pilot episode first, according to Variety. That decision moves the project from development into production, where a writers' room scripts the season and a full crew is hired to shoot it. It is the clearest sign that the story will be finished on screen. No official release date has been announced. Until that date is set, there is no slot in the listings to look for.
Sakraya is a 30-year-old German actor working across film, television and music. On film, he appeared in Rhinegold. On television, his credits include Netflix's science-fiction series Tribes of Europa and Netflix's fantasy series Warrior Nun. He also appeared in the historical drama Those About to Die. He is set to appear in Season 3 of One Piece. As a musician, he releases electronic pop and has more than 300,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.
McGregor is a 24-year-old actress already known to Prime Video viewers. She had her breakout role in the streamer's 2025 adaptation We Were Liars, based on the novel of the same name by E. Lockhart. On film, she appeared opposite Nicole Kidman in Babygirl, sharing the screen with one of cinema's best-known names. On television, she appeared in Disney+'s Obi-Wan Kenobi and in Freevee's High School.
For viewers new to the books, this is the starting point. Everything else in the adaptation builds around Violet and Xaden. What makes this stand out is how much rests on that pairing. Get that relationship right on screen, and the dragon-riding world has something solid to sit on. Supporting cast and a release date come next.
