Sony Pictures Classics buys TIFF premiere The Julia Set starring Chase Infiniti

Sony Pictures Classics has bought rights to The Julia Set, the Toronto premiere starring Chase Infiniti, as reported by Variety on 16 October.
The film was written and directed by Niki Byrne, according to Variety. It is her directorial debut. It had its world premiere at TIFF, the Toronto International Film Festival.
Infiniti plays Julia Fischer, a maths prodigy. The deal is done. Her story drives the film.
Christopher Briney plays Pascal, Julia's teaching assistant, according to Variety. Jason Isaacs and Gillian Anderson play Pascal's parents. The wider cast includes Nina Hoss, Carmen Ejogo, Chloe Bailey, Nico Hiraga, Liz Lin and Alex Dillard.
The purchase covers a long list of territories. Sony Pictures Classics will distribute the film in the United States, Benelux, Switzerland, Italy, Scandinavia, Spain, the United Kingdom, Eastern Europe excluding Poland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Israel and Asia excluding Singapore, according to Variety.
That means one buyer holds cinema rights across North America, much of Europe and large parts of Asia-Pacific. The studio is planning a theatrical release next year, which means the film will play in cinemas rather than going straight to streaming, according to Variety. The deal was negotiated between Sony Pictures Classics and Gersh.
The film arrived in Toronto with advance notice. Deadline had included The Julia Set on its TIFF 2026 Hot List of buzzy titles for sale. Infiniti had previously appeared in One Battle After Another, as noted by Screen Daily.
What makes this stand out for film fans is the path ahead. A festival premiere followed by a wide-territory sale often points to a full cinema rollout, with release dates to come country by country.
