Harry Styles debuted an unreleased song titled 'What Is Enough' in honour of Liam Payne at Madison Square Garden in New York on Friday, Oct. 16.

The performance fell on the second anniversary of Payne's death. Styles told the crowd he wrote the song for Payne about two years ago, according to Billboard.

He introduced it simply. "This is What Is Enough." He then played it live for the first time as a dedication to his former bandmate.

The show was part of Styles' 30-night residency at Madison Square Garden. The residency forms part of his Together, Together Tour, which supports his fourth studio album, 'Kiss All the Time, Disco Occasionally'.

Demand for the residency has been large. Ticketmaster reported that 11.5 million people registered for presale access, according to Billboard.

Payne died in October 2024 at age 31. He died in Argentina, as reported by Sky News.

Styles paid tribute publicly at the time. He said Payne wore "his heart on his sleeve" and signed off a written message: "I will miss him always, my lovely friend," as reported by Rolling Stone.

Payne and Styles rose to fame together in One Direction alongside Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik. The group formed on the U.K.'s The X Factor in 2010 and went on hiatus in 2016.

The group had four consecutive No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200, the US albums chart. As a solo artist, Styles has had three consecutive No. 1 albums on the same chart.

He has also topped the Billboard Hot 100, the US singles chart, with 'Watermelon Sugar' and 'As It Was'. 'As It Was' spent 15 weeks at No. 1.
