Mukasa sinks leaders Swansea as West Ham win top-of-the-table clash

Swansea City's four-game winning run is over. West Ham United beat the Championship leaders 1-0 in Swansea on 17 October, with Divine Mukasa's first-half goal settling a top-of-the-table meeting. Sky Sports
It was tight. It was tense. And one moment decided it.
Mukasa struck before the break to silence the home crowd. Swansea pushed hard for a reply, and defender Ben Cabango came closest when he hit the woodwork. At the other end, Swansea goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux kept the score down with second-half saves from Jarrod Bowen twice and from Pablo.
The result ended two proud records. Swansea lost for only the second time in the league this season. West Ham also became the first visiting side since Southampton in April to win a league game at Swansea. BBC Sport
Despite the defeat, Swansea stayed top of the Championship, England's second tier. West Ham's win lifted them to second, right on the leaders' heels. For a division where the top two go up automatically, that matters.
Swansea head coach Vitor Matos told his players to use the frustration as fuel. The Portuguese coach, who took charge in November 2025, said his team can compete against every side in the league. He had gone into the game with a selection headache at right-back, but refused to use that as an excuse.
What makes this stand out is the response it demands. Swansea have set the pace all season. Now they have a chasing pack with belief, and a reminder that small margins decide big games.
For fans, this means a race, not a procession. Swansea still lead the way. West Ham are coming. And the next few weeks just got a lot more interesting.
