Labour has pledged $7 million to get kids off screens and 'back to being kids' ahead of New Zealand's 2026 election, according to RNZ.

New Zealand First has promised a 12-month trial of commuter rail in Canterbury ahead of the same election, according to RNZ. The proposal is for train services to operate in the region on a trial basis. Both are election promises, not changes already in place.

The proposed Canterbury trial would include services from Rolleston, according to the NZ Herald. New Zealand First said the trial aims to halve travel time from Rolleston, according to The Press.
