South Africa turn to Rabada as Australia chase series in Gqeberha

South Africa have recalled fast bowler Kagiso Rabada for the second Test against Australia at St George's Park in Gqeberha.
The match was scheduled for 18-22 October at Dafabet St George's Park, with a 10:00 start, in the city historically known as Port Elizabeth The Guardian. It is part of Australia's 2026/27 tour of South Africa. Test cricket is played over up to five days, with each team usually batting twice.
Australia arrived on the east coast with the lead. They won the first Test in Durban despite a batting collapse on day one The Guardian. The margin was 214 runs Reuters. That hurt.
South Africa answered with change. The hosts were set for substantial alterations to their side in Gqeberha The Guardian. Tristan Stubbs was dropped from the squad, while Ryan Rickelton was set to take the gloves behind the stumps as wicketkeeper ESPNcricinfo.
Rabada's return is the headline. The pace leader missed earlier action with a hamstring injury, a strain to the muscle at the back of the thigh. His speed and control give South Africa a sharper edge with the new ball, the hard, shiny ball used at the start of an innings when bowlers get most movement.
Selection stayed tight until late. As of 17 October, South Africa had not confirmed their playing XI Reuters. Australia were in the same position, still undecided on their starting XI on 17 October Reuters.
For fans, this means a simple equation. Australia can press for the series. South Africa need a response, and a fresh-look team plus a fit Rabada gives them a way back in.
