SNL UK Roasts Shane Gillis Over US Monologue in Uncensored Weekend Update Joke

Britain's Saturday Night Live swore at Shane Gillis on live television over his monologue on the American show.
The joke came on Saturday night during Weekend Update, the show's regular news-parody desk slot. Co-host Ania Magliano, billed as a Saturday Night Live UK Weekend Update presenter, used the segment to answer Gillis a week after his third turn hosting the United States edition of Saturday Night Live Variety.
Magliano set it up with a story about Oktoberfest in Munich. A ride operator there had been praised for handing out free cycling shorts to female riders, she said. Gym shorts stop women being upskirted, she joked, but leave them open to something much worse.
A photo of Gillis from his monologue then appeared on screen. "Last week on 'SNL,' comedian Shane Gillis also caused controversy by dropping the f-bomb," Magliano said, before adding: "Oh, Shane. You're not allowed to say that, you stupid fucking cunt" Variety.
The line went out uncensored and drew uproarious laughter in the studio, in what was framed as a swipe at SNL US, its elder sibling across the Atlantic Us Magazine.
It was a direct reply to Gillis's opening monologue in the United States. In that routine, Gillis said: "I haven't been to the gym in so long, I didn't know women just dress like whores now?" Variety
For fans, this means the two shows are now openly talking to each other. The British edition has posted the moment online as "Ania Magliano with the latest on Shane Gillis | SNL UK." The UK series is available to watch on Sky and NOW SNL UK on YouTube.
Gillis has a long and tangled history with Saturday Night Live. He was hired as a cast member and then fired before he ever appeared on air, and later returned as a host. His latest appearance was his third time hosting Deadline. He stars in Netflix's Tires The Hollywood Reporter.
That US show also addressed the row on air. Weekend Update co-anchor Michael Che reacted to the monologue controversy by telling Gillis: "Thanks a lot Shane" The Hollywood Reporter.
During the same US appearance, Gillis shared his nickname "Gas Station Egg," a name he said came from Joe Rogan and Theo Von The Hollywood Reporter.
