Brighton rout Palace 5-0 after three goals in 10 minutes

Brighton beat Crystal Palace 5-0 in the Premier League on 18 October 2026.
Palace were 3-0 down after 10 minutes. The game was gone before many fans had found their seats.
The opener came from a mistake. Pascal Gross curled in a free-kick, a restart awarded after a foul, and Palace defender Jaydee Canvot headed it past his own goalkeeper, Walter Benítez. It was an own goal. Brighton led.
Then came the goal of the day. Adam Wharton lost the ball in midfield. Olivier Boscagli moved it quickly to Diego Gómez on the halfway line. Gómez looked up and shot first time.
It flew in from 51 metres out, according to The Guardian. That makes it the longest-range Premier League goal since Wayne Rooney scored from 58 metres for Everton against West Ham in November 2017.
Brighton’s third followed in that same frantic start. Charalampos Kostoulas set up Yasin Ayari. His shot took a deflection off Canvot and wrong-footed Benítez. Three shots that counted. Three goals.
Kostoulas got one of his own after half-time. He finished calmly to make it 4-0. Substitute Jack Hinshelwood completed the scoring with a late header.
Fresh legs told. Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler had made eight changes for a Conference League win three days earlier. Palace, under Pierre Sage, had travelled to Lyon in the Europa League on the Thursday night before. Europe’s second and third-tier club competitions both demand long trips and quick turnarounds.
The scoreline matched history. Brighton’s 5-0 win equalled their 5-0 victory over Palace in 1956, when both clubs were in Division Three South.
It also settled a recent score. Brighton’s last win over Palace before this one was a 4-1 victory in February 2024 under Roberto De Zerbi. That had ended a four-match winless run against their rivals. Since then Palace had held the edge, including a 1-0 win in February 2026 and a victory in April 2025 even after going down to nine men.
What makes this stand out is the speed of it. Ten minutes. Three goals. One struck from the halfway line. For Brighton fans, it is a derby day they will replay for years. For Palace, a long week got longer.
