John Wilson to direct Harry Styles Madison Square Garden documentary

John Wilson is directing a behind-the-scenes documentary about Harry Styles and his 30-night residency at Madison Square Garden in New York. Pitchfork, citing Variety, reported the project on 18 October.
Wilson has been filming the residency for the project. The film follows Styles through the New York run, with cameras capturing life around the shows during the extended stay at the Garden. Vulture also described it as a concert documentary built around the Madison Square Garden engagement.
The project is produced by Universal Pictures Content Group, Peanut World Pictures and Styles himself. That credit puts the singer on both sides of the camera, as the subject of the film and as one of its producers.
For viewers meeting Wilson for the first time, he is the creator of HBO's How To With John Wilson, a documentary-comedy series built from street-level footage filmed around New York. He also directed The History of Concrete. The Styles film will be his first artist documentary, following his recent work directing the music video for Bon Iver's "Everything Is Peaceful Love".
The Garden run is a large undertaking by any measure. It has been described as the longest single-engagement residency the venue has ever hosted. A residency, in plain terms, means a run of shows at one venue rather than moving to a different city each night.
The residency sits inside a much larger live schedule. Styles' Together, Together Tour for 2026 features 67 shows across seven cities, including Amsterdam, London, São Paulo, Mexico City, New York and Melbourne, according to Variety. Styles has also announced a stadium tour for 2027, which extends that live programme into next year.
What makes this stand out is the pairing. Wilson built his reputation on quiet observation and small details, filmed on the streets of the same city where Styles is now playing night after night. For fans, this means the documentary is likely to look different from a standard tour film, with the Garden run giving Wilson one fixed place to watch and return to.
