Jesse Eisenberg says winning a Raspberry Award for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice shut him out of studio movies.

He could no longer get into studio parts after the win, he told an audience. The award did real damage.

He made the remarks during a screen talk on Sunday as part of the BFI London Film Festival, according to Variety. The session ranged across his acting career and his later move behind the camera.

Eisenberg played Lex Luthor opposite Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck in the 2016 film. He received the worst supporting actor Raspberry for the performance. The Razzies, short for the Golden Raspberry Awards, are a tongue-in-cheek vote for the year's weakest screen work.

He said the prize hurt his prospects as a film actor. Studio doors closed. He stepped back from acting and leaned into writing and directing to keep his career afloat.

The film itself collected four Razzies in total, including worst screenplay, worst sequel and worst screen combo for Cavill and Affleck. It had led the 2017 Razzie nominations alongside Zoolander 2, according to Variety. Commercially it was a different story. It opened with $424.1 million globally at the box office.

Eisenberg said he realised he should not do more superhero films. The industry did not want him in a superhero movie, as he put it.

What makes this stand out is how long one awards night has followed him. A decade on from the 2016 release, he still links his shift toward writing and directing to that single win.
