Madueke's Late Winner Earns Arsenal Win Over Forest

Noni Madueke stepped off the bench to win it for Arsenal against Nottingham Forest.
The winger struck in the 80th minute on Sunday, 18 October to seal a 1-0 victory and three Premier League points. It was a second-half story from start to finish. Manager Mikel Arteta sent him on at half-time, and Madueke settled it late.
The goal came from the left. Madueke cut inside on his weaker right foot and hit a shot that took a deflection on its way in. That little slice of luck mattered. Forest had held firm until then, and one diverted strike was enough to break them, according to BBC.
Arteta calls his substitutes "finishers". Madueke played the part. He brought direct running and forced the game open when Arsenal needed something different.
The chance arrived because others were missing. Christos Tzolis, signed to replace the departed Leandro Trossard, was out with a hamstring injury suffered playing for Greece. Tzolis had started the season as Arteta's first-choice winger, with Madueke and Eberechi Eze used largely from the bench or in the Carabao Cup.
Madueke had started just one league game before Forest, the 2-1 win over Leeds United. He had also started on the right wing against Lille in a Champions League win, where he set up the opening goal. Arteta said he had been Arsenal's best player during the international break, adding that he had "grabbed it with both hands" after starting against Leeds.
It is quite a turnaround. Madueke joined Arsenal from Chelsea for £48.5m, a move that prompted a 'No to Madueke' petition among some supporters. Last season he scored eight goals and made four assists in 43 appearances in all competitions.
What makes this stand out is the timing. Madueke did not sulk through his weeks as a back-up. He waited, worked, and then changed a tight match in 45 minutes. For fans, this means something simple and shared. A player they were unsure about gave them an afternoon to remember together.
