Cindy Crawford and her husband Rande Gerber said Sunday, Oct. 18, that they are "beyond heartbroken" to lose their son Presley Gerber.

The joint tribute was shared in an Instagram post on Crawford's account and signed "with love forever" from Crawford, Gerber and their daughter Kaia Gerber, according to PEOPLE.

Presley Gerber died aged 27 at a rehab facility on 20 September, according to Los Angeles County medical examiner records. The cause of his death has not been disclosed, The Guardian reported.

Kaia Gerber shared her own tribute after the family statement, posting a carousel of images and videos of herself with her older brother on her Instagram page. She described him as "inherently good" and her "ultimate teacher."

She set the post to the song "First I Was" by Jake Minch, which she said was "the last thing we talked about." Actors Taylor Lautner, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Suki Waterhouse and Paris Hilton were among those who commented on the post.

Presley Walker Gerber, born July 2, 1999, was signed by IMG Models when he was 15 and modelled for Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana and Bottega Veneta. He spoke frequently about his struggles with depression and substance abuse.

The family statement came nearly one month after his death. In the weeks before it, a source told PEOPLE that Crawford, 60, was "heartbroken," and Presley Gerber's ex-girlfriend, model Charlotte D'Alessio, shared a tribute on Sept. 25. Months earlier, in a May interview with PEOPLE, Crawford had said she was proud of the bond between her two children.
