Secret Elizabeth Holmes film You Can See Everything opens to $15 million

A secret documentary about disgraced Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes has stormed cinemas in the United States and Canada.
You Can See Everything earned $15 million at the domestic box office — the United States and Canada — on its opening weekend of 16 to 18 October 2026, according to The Guardian. The figure is a studio estimate until Monday's actuals. It played on just 855 screens.
That is a tight room count for a big number. The film logged more than 2,000 sold-out screenings over the weekend, according to distributor A24. The per-screen average was $17,543 for the 16-18 October weekend, according to Box Office Mojo.
The nearly three-hour film is directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim and was made in secret over three years. Fielder spent more than a month with Holmes, her two young children and her partner Billy Evans before Holmes reported to federal prison, according to The Guardian. A24, which lists the film as Now Playing, describes it as a mind-bending three-year journey into the abyss.
The daily path was strong. It took $5.5 million on opening Friday, including $1.75 million from Thursday previews, then an estimated $5.2 million on Saturday, down 6% from Friday, according to The Numbers.
The opening is the biggest weekend for a documentary in North America in more than 20 years. It is also the biggest opening for any film playing on fewer than 1,000 screens since Borat opened to $26.5 million in 2006.
For context, Fahrenheit 9/11 earned nearly $24 million from 868 theatres on its opening. The concert-film record still belongs to Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, with $92.8 million in 2023 in nearly 4,000 cinemas.
Young crowds drove it. More than 70% of the opening-weekend audience in North America was under 35. Exit polls were loud: 91% ‘definite recommend’ in PostTrak surveys. Reviews are strong too, with 99% on Rotten Tomatoes and 99 on Metacritic.
The budget was small for this scale. The film reportedly cost less than $7 million to make and less than $10 million to market.
Elsewhere on the weekend, Street Fighter topped the global chart with a $51 million opening, including $20 million internationally. Other Mommy earned $8.4 million domestically in its second weekend for a $78.7 million global total. Whalefall earned $8 million from 3,065 locations in the United States and Canada and $9.5 million internationally for a $17.5 million global launch. Alex Gibney’s Elon Musk documentary Musk expanded to 472 screens in the United States and Canada, earning $306,702.
What makes this stand out is the calendar. You Can See Everything had not yet opened internationally, with release in Australia on 12 November and in the UK on 20 November. Its domestic start already covers its reported production and marketing spend.
