First production images for Ilford Boy have been released ahead of its world premiere at the Donmar Warehouse. The release offers a first view of the staging before opening night.

The photographs by Helen Murray show the company on stage. They were published on 19 October, a day before the production officially opens, according to WhatsOnStage.

The show is directed by Tim Sheader. Sheader is the artistic director of the Donmar, meaning he leads the theatre's programme as well as directing individual productions.

Ilford Boy is a new play by Danny Lee Wynter set in 1990s East London. It centres on Ted Martin, a mixed-race teenager, and follows what happens when another young man, Patrick, arrives in his life.

That arrival changes Ted's world. The play stays with Ted as he navigates family, friendship and growing up.

Leo Whitfield-Harris leads the company as Ted. Craig Stein plays Patrick, the newcomer whose presence shifts the story.

The wider cast brings together familiar faces and newer performers. Lindsey Coulson plays Eileen and Jodie McNee plays Jackie.

Cary Crankson plays Trevor and Gershwyn Eustache Jnr plays Ken. Aaron Gill plays Raj, Charlotte Jaconelli plays Ann and Ria Zmitrowicz plays Tillie.

First-look photos are a regular moment in a new production's build-up. Theatres share them after technical rehearsals and previews, the performances before the official opening, once costumes, lighting and set are in place. They give audiences a sense of the world before reviews appear.

For anyone new to the process, a world premiere simply means a first staging. No audience has seen this production before.

The dates matter here. Ilford Boy officially opens on 20 October. It then runs at the Donmar Warehouse until 28 November.

What stands out for audiences is how close the photo release sits to opening. The images land just as the show moves from previews into its full run.

The release gives future audiences a first visual reference ahead of choosing a date. It is not a review. It simply shows the company in costume on the Donmar stage.

Listings will now carry the images through the run. The company plays until 28 November. Opening night itself is 20 October. The announcement was reported by trade press on 19 October. More details are in theatre listings.
