Luis Díaz hits hat-trick as Bayern rout Leipzig 6-1 to go top

Bayern Munich thrashed RB Leipzig 6-1 at the Allianz Arena on Saturday, 17 October, with Luis Díaz scoring three goals and setting up another.
The Colombian forward gave the reigning German champions the lead in the 12th minute. Stand-in captain Joshua Kimmich slipped the pass through, and Díaz finished past Leipzig goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt, according to The Guardian.
Bayern did not slow down. Just before the half-hour mark, Díaz turned provider for Aleksandar Pavlovic for the second goal. Then Harry Kane set up Michael Olise for the third. Three chances. Three goals. Leipzig had no answer.
Díaz struck again after the break. Kane found him, he cut inside and curled the ball into the far corner. He would go on to complete his hat-trick, three goals in one game, plus an assist in a complete attacking display, as confirmed by FC Bayern.
The win took Bayern to the top of the Bundesliga, the German top flight, after the weekend's games, according to Yahoo Sports. The club described it as “A performance to release new energy” in its official match report.
There was a familiar face in the away dugout. Leipzig head coach Martin Demichelis is a former Bayern player. He watched his side come undone in Munich.
Bayern boss Vincent Kompany missed the post-match press conference through illness and a hip problem. Sporting director Max Eberl stepped in to speak instead.
Díaz arrived in this game in sharp European form too. He had scored for Bayern against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League to narrow the gap heading into the second leg of that tie.
What makes this stand out is the timing. Olise will miss Bayern’s Champions League meeting with Arsenal through suspension. That puts even more focus on Díaz to lead the attack. For fans, this means real momentum. Ninety minutes that lifted the whole stadium, and a statement that the champions are hitting their stride.
