Timo Tjahjanto to Direct Ibiza Action-Comedy 'The Burnout' for Miramax

Timo Tjahjanto will direct The Burnout for Miramax, an action-comedy billed as The Big Lebowski meets Jason Bourne, Deadline reported on 19 October 2026.
The pitch pairs two very different energies. One is a laid-back slacker comedy. The other is a hard-running spy thriller. That is the combination Miramax is aiming for here.
The story centres on a washed-up former CIA agent living as a carefree burnout in Ibiza. He is dragged back into action, according to Deadline.
The script was written by Tom O'Connor, with current revisions by Hunter Toro. A revision is a later pass on the screenplay, often to sharpen character or action before casting. Arianna D'Andrea, vice-president of film production and development, brought the project into Miramax.
Tjahjanto is an action director with two recent sequels to his name. He directed Nobody 2. He also directed The Beekeeper 2 for Miramax, which Amazon MGM Studios is slated to release on 15 January 2027, Deadline reported.
The first Beekeeper film earned more than $162 million in worldwide ticket sales, according to Deadline. Worldwide means takings from cinemas in all countries combined, counted in US dollars.
Tjahjanto is currently in production on an untitled Indonesian thriller for Netflix. In production means cameras are rolling. Early in his career he teamed with Gareth Evans to direct the “Safe Haven” segment for V/H/S/2, an anthology horror film told in short parts.
He is represented by WME, Entertainment 360 and attorney Marios Rush. Agents and managers handle jobs and deals. The attorney handles contracts.
What makes this stand out is the fit. Tjahjanto built his name on fast, physical action. A burnt-out spy in Ibiza gives him chases and fights with a comic edge.
