Sony Pictures has acquired the live-action film rights to D'Orc, the bestselling comic book series written and illustrated by Brett Bean.

Bean is attached to adapt his own work for the screen, Deadline reported on 19 October 2026. Live-action means a film made with actors and physical sets rather than animation. The deal gives Sony the path to turn the Image Comics title into a cinema feature.

The comic arrives with clear sales momentum. Its first issue sold out before release. That issue is now on its eighth printing. Later issues have also gone back for multiple printings. In comics publishing, each new printing is another production run ordered because shops have sold through the last one.

Bean both wrote and drew D'Orc. He is also the author of the Zoo Patrol Squad graphic novel series for young readers. He wrote the Muk 'n' Honey book series as well. That background spans comics shops and the children's shelf.

His other credits cross comics and creature work. He contributed illustration work to the Dungeon Crawler Carl comic series. He also drew for Marvel's Rocket and Groot series. Separately, he supplied puppet designs for Jim Henson's Creature Shop, the workshop behind many screen puppets and practical creatures.

What makes this stand out is how quickly collectors noticed. In February, D'Orc books took eight of the ten places on a weekly hottest comics chart, Bleeding Cool reported. That kind of chart tracks what buyers are searching for and paying for on the secondary market. It does not decide a film's future, but it shows early demand for the property.

For fans, this means the screen version will start with its creator in the writing seat. Creator-led adaptations keep the original voice close to the script in the early stage. Studios often add other writers, a director and producers as a project moves forward. None of those later steps have been detailed in this announcement.

Bean is represented by ChengCaplan Company and InkWell Management, with Alexander Lawrence also representing him.
