WASHINGTON — A federal judge expressed deep skepticism as she heard testimony about President Donald Trump's plans to redevelop a golf course at East Potomac Park in Washington, AP reported.

The case was before U.S. District Judge Ana Reyes. Earlier in 2026, she ruled that the government must give notice before any substantive construction work on the course, according to Reuters.

The dispute includes the abrupt removal of about 500 trees from the East Potomac Golf Links in Washington, D.C. A federal judge criticized the Justice Department over “inexcusable” tree removal at the course, Reuters reported.

Trump said the renovation project would start in November despite the judge's order. He also said he will close the historic D.C. golf course for 15 months of renovations, according to PBS.

A judge ordered a halt to the East Potomac redevelopment plans until at least Oct. 26. NPR reported the latest arguments in the case on Oct. 19.
