Shane Lowry traded to Boston Common Golf in first TGL deal

Shane Lowry has become the first player to be traded in the TMRW Golf League. Boston Common Golf will sign the Irishman for the 2027 season after striking a deal with The Bay GC.
The move was announced on 19 October by Boston Common Golf in an article titled "Boston Common Golf Acquires Shane Lowry in First Trade in TGL History" Boston Common Golf. It pairs Lowry with his friend Rory McIlroy for the third campaign of the league.
TGL is golf's indoor team competition. It was co-founded by McIlroy alongside Tiger Woods and Mike McCarley and is played at the SoFi Centre in Florida, according to BBC Sport.
Lowry spent his first two TGL seasons with The Bay GC. He now joins a Boston squad that featured McIlroy, Keegan Bradley, Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama last season.
It is a natural fit. Lowry and McIlroy are close friends off the course and regular partners for Ireland in team golf. Boston get a proven winner and a loud, popular presence for a roster that will grow.
The price is draft capital. The Bay will receive Boston's fourth draft selection, which it will use to fill its open roster spot, plus one future selection over the next three seasons and commercial considerations, according to PGA Tour. A draft pick here means the right to choose an available player to complete the squad.
Rosters will expand to five players for the 2027 campaign. That extra seat matters. It gives captains more room to mix power, short game and personality across a short indoor season where every hole counts.
Lowry arrives in form. The 2019 Open champion won the Irish Open at Doonbeg in September. He brings a major title and a Ryder Cup record that Boston fans will know well.
The league is shifting elsewhere too. New side Motor City Golf Club has announced Brooks Koepka as its first player. Koepka, a five-time winner of golf's four biggest championships, the majors, adds heavyweight scoring power to the expansion roster. McIlroy is also a five-time major winner.
Boston will open its third TGL season against Los Angeles Golf Club, according to ESPN.
For fans, this means a simple thing. McIlroy and Lowry, friends who feed off noise and team golf, now share the same bench. Expect fast play, plenty of chatter and a Friday-night feel in Florida.
