David Bowie dance work heads for Sadler's Wells in autumn 2028

David Bowie is returning to a British stage as dance.
Subject to Change – A Dance for David Bowie will have its UK premiere at Sadler's Wells Theatre in autumn 2028. The new full-length work is by choreographer Marcos Morau and celebrates Bowie's legacy, according to details reported by WhatsOnStage.
It starts abroad. The world premiere is planned for Les Théâtres de la Ville in Luxembourg in spring 2028. An Asian premiere is then expected at Bunkamura in Tokyo in spring 2029.
The show is in production by Sadler's Wells, Bunkamura and La Veronal. That is a co-production, meaning the partners share the cost and work of making it before it travels. Further co-producers are Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg, LAC Lugano Arte e Cultura, La Biennale di Venezia and Centro Cultural de Belém.
Music sits at the centre. The production will feature well-known Bowie songs alongside original vocals. Those vocals will be reimagined with choral sounds and singer María Arnal. Musical direction is by Alex Röser Vatiché and Ben Meerwein of OZCUR.
The wider creative team has also been named. Set design is by Max Glaenzel. Costume design is by Silvia Delagneau.
Sadler's Wells describes the piece as a new dance production inspired by Bowie's fearless reinvention, as stated on Sadler's Wells. Morau is making the work for a large ensemble. No casting or ticket details have been announced.
For fans, this means a long wait. Spring 2028 in Luxembourg comes first, then London in autumn 2028, then Tokyo in spring 2029. More details on dates, running time and tickets are expected closer to the premieres, meaning the first public performances in each territory.
