Boulter ends losing run with two-day win in Osaka

Britain's Katie Boulter snapped a six-match losing streak with a 6-3 6-1 win over Himeno Sakatsume in the first round of the Kinoshita Group Japan Open in Osaka.
The No. 8 seed finished the job on Tuesday, 20 October, a day after bad weather stopped play. She had led the Japanese wild card by a set and 3-1 when the players were taken off court on Monday, according to BBC Sport.
That overnight lead mattered. Boulter returned on Tuesday and closed out the second set without fuss. The final score read 6-3 6-1.
The numbers tell the story of pressure held and pressure told. Boulter took five of her nine break points, a chance to win her opponent's service game. Sakatsume created plenty of openings but took only one of 13, a return that will sting.
Boulter's seeding, the system that keeps the highest-ranked players apart in the early rounds, had marked her as favourite. This time she played like it. The WTA noted the victory ended a run of six straight defeats, in its report WTA.
Next up is Switzerland's Viktorija Golubic in the second round in Osaka.
Elsewhere, Iga Swiatek withdrew from the Ningbo Open with a thigh injury, BBC Sport reported. The WTA Finals, which brings together the top eight singles players and doubles teams, runs from 8-15 November.
What makes this stand out is the nerve. A rain break can freeze a player who is ahead. Boulter did not let it. For fans, this means a clean win and a quick reset before Golubic.
