Revolut outage leaves customers unable to access money in app

Revolut customers were unable to access their money through the company's banking app on October 20, 2026, after a service disruption hit payments and other core functions.
The London-based bank said services were partially unavailable, affecting sign-up, sign-in, card payments, transfers, ATM withdrawals and cryptocurrency services. Users opening the app received a "something went wrong" message instructing them to "try again later" and could not reach their funds, The Guardian.
Revolut said all customers' money and data were safe during the disruption. It said it had been working to fix the issue since it was identified that morning.
Revolut runs its services on Google Cloud's scalable infrastructure under a strategic partnership. Google reported that multiple Cloud services were experiencing elevated errors and intermittent network failures in the europe-west2 region, with no workaround available, The Guardian.
Revolut's system status page reported a Card payments incident detected on 20 Oct 2026 at 00:47 GMT-7. It said its team was investigating and working on a fix.
The outage occurred weeks after two incidents involving customer data. Revolut confirmed it had disclosed sensitive customer information to an unauthorized third party as a result of fake government requests, Reuters. Hackers posing as government officials accessed data of hundreds of customers, and the company faced a reported $3 million (£2.2 million) ransom demand, The Guardian.
Revolut said it will cover costs for customers wanting to change identity documents after the data hack, Reuters. The company was valued at $115 billion in October 2026, making it Europe's most valuable startup, Reuters.
