Disco-ball globe brings free concerts to Miami Beach

A 28ft-tall disco ball you can party inside is coming to the sand in Miami Beach in Florida.
The Abu Dhabi-based artist Christopher Joshua Benton is building A Lore Supreme, a sculpture that doubles as a public event space, for the non-profit Faena Art in Miami, according to The Art Newspaper.
It measures 28ft tall and 44ft wide. It is covered in 7,000 mirrored facets and shaped like a spinning globe carrying a reimagined map of the world.
The work will sit on the sand behind the Faena Hotel at Faena Beach in Miami Beach. It will act as an open space for gathering and celebration during the 2026 edition of Art Basel Miami Beach, the large art fair held in the city each December. Entry is free.
It will be open to the public from 1 December to 6 December. The presentation was organised by Benton in collaboration with Faena Art, and is his first major installation in the United States.
The map is not standard. It gives prominence to countries in Africa, the Caribbean and Latin America whose people and music have fed into Miami's culture.
Sound is built into the structure itself. Embedded speakers will play fragments of conversation and music that Benton collected while researching the city's music scene.
Public events will run under the umbrella title Island Funk House. The programme includes wellness activities, a sound documentary and sunset concerts, with appearances from Jacob Lusk, Richie Hell, DJ Le Spam, DJ Pressure Point and PaperWate.
The headline night belongs to Major Lazer. The group will play an exclusive concert at the sculpture during Miami Art Week, the week of fairs, shows and late-night sets that surrounds the main fair, according to The Art Newspaper.
For fans, this means no fair ticket is needed to take part. Walk in off the beach, hear the city played back at you, and dance under 7,000 mirrors.
