Liverpool will open a new 100,000 sq ft visitor attraction devoted to the Beatles in 2028, a plan Paul McCartney has described as "extraordinary". The Guardian

The project is an upgrade for the Beatles Story museum, which opened at Liverpool's Royal Albert Dock in 1990. Ownership of the Beatles Story will pass to the Beatles' company, Apple Corps, and it will become the band's first official fan experience in Liverpool.

The museum will move to the former St John's Market shopping centre, close to Liverpool's Lime Street railway station. The market has lain unused since closing in 2024, and the new site will allow the Beatles Story to become four times bigger than its current home.

Apple Corps will take over and renovate St Johns Beacon, a 450ft tower described as Liverpool's second-tallest building. The tower has remained unused since 2024, when its viewing gallery closed and its radio station tenants vacated. It will become a separate attraction themed around the Beatles' animated film Yellow Submarine.

The new Beatles Story is billed as a "multi-hour experience" recreating settings including childhood homes, the Cavern, Hamburg nightclubs, Abbey Road, Shea Stadium and the Savile Row rooftop where the Beatles played their final concert in 1969.

McCartney said he finds it "incredible and humbling" that people are still interested in the Beatles' story and that the Beatles Story and Beacon transformation in Liverpool is exciting. Ringo Starr said "It is great to be part of this – deep down I am still a scouser."

A new charity, the Apple Corps Liverpool Trust, will receive a portion of every ticket sold to fund initiatives for local musicians. The project is being led by Apple Corps with Liverpool City Council and Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, with UK government support.

At 3 Savile Row, the site of the Beatles' final concert and Apple Corps' 1960s headquarters, the Beatles at 3 Savile Row is scheduled to open in 2027 across seven floors with never-before-seen material from the Apple Corps archives. AXS The Beatles – A Four Film Cinematic Event is anticipated for release in 2028.
