Andrew Garfield to Receive Maltin Modern Master Award at Santa Barbara
Andrew Garfield will receive the Maltin Modern Master Award at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on Feb. 6, Variety reported.
The presentation will centre on an on-stage conversation between Garfield and film critic Leonard Maltin. It is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 6 at 8:00 p.m., according to SBIFF.
The tribute lands in the middle of the 42nd festival, which runs Feb. 3-13. Santa Barbara has become a regular stop in the film awards season, with its tributes pairing a prize with a long public interview.
Garfield is being recognised for a stage and screen career that includes two Academy Award nominations, Variety reported. He has also won a Golden Globe Award and a Tony Award.
His next screen role keeps him in the headlines. He plays OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman in Artificial, the upcoming film from director Luca Guadagnino.
The Modern Master Award was established in 1995 to celebrate a person who has enriched culture through work in film. It was renamed the Maltin Modern Master Award in 2015 in honour of Maltin, the long-time critic who conducts the festival conversation.
What makes this stand out is the format. It is less a quick acceptance speech and more a deep dive into choices, directors and turning points. For fans, this means a rare chance to hear Garfield trace his own path in his own words.
