Bill Kreutzmann Announces Three-Day Thanksgiving Run in Kauai

Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann will host a three-day Thanksgiving concert run in Hawaii.
The event, titled “A Very Grateful Thanksgiving,” is scheduled for Nov. 27, 28 and 29 at the Porter Pavilion in Kauai, Hawaii. Kreutzmann disclosed the plans in an interview with Rolling Stone, published on Oct. 20.
Tickets go on sale at 8 a.m. Hawaiian time on Wednesday, according to the report.
The guest list is long. And varied.
Folk singers and songwriters David Rawlings and Gillian Welch are among the performers booked for the three nights. Pianist Holly Bowling is also on the bill, alongside bass player Sam Grisman, the son of mandolin player David Grisman.
Bass player Alphonso Johnson and drummer Mark Kara are set to perform as well. Kreutzmann will also be joined by Aron Magner and Reed Mathis, his bandmates in Billy and the Kids, the side band he leads outside the Grateful Dead.
Members of four other live acts round out the announcement: Eggy, the String Cheese Incident, Punch Brothers and Skeleton Crewe. Full set times and day-by-day line-ups have not yet been published.
The venue is a familiar one for Kreutzmann. Porter Pavilion, in Kilauea on the island of Kauai, previously hosted his Mahalo Dead run, a separate multi-night stand in Hawaii.
That history matters for local fans. Kreutzmann confirmed three consecutive live performances on Kauai for Nov. 22-24 in 2024, making this year’s Thanksgiving weekend the second November in a row he has centred live work on the island.
For fans, this means a holiday weekend built around rotating guests rather than a single fixed band. Three nights, one small outdoor venue, and a cast drawn from folk, rock and improvisational music.
