Mena Suvari and David Arquette to Lead Indie Horror-Thriller Homesick

Mena Suvari and David Arquette will play husband and wife in Homesick, an independent horror-thriller bound for Winnipeg. The casting was first reported as an exclusive by Deadline on 20 October 2026.
Suvari stars as Dr Abby Morrison. Arquette plays Gordy, her husband. Belle Shouse co-stars as a mysterious young woman, with Alberto Rosende completing the central four-strong cast named in the report.
The production was scheduled to begin filming in Winnipeg the day after the report, which points to a shoot starting on 21 October. A start that close to a casting announcement is typical of independent production, where a film made outside the major studio system moves quickly once its cast, locations and finance are locked.
Todd Slavkin directs Homesick from a script he wrote with Darren Swimmer. The pairing keeps writing and direction in close hands, with both writers carrying through to the shoot.
The film comes from Evoke Entertainment and Freefall Films, the two production companies behind the project. In independent film, companies of this kind usually assemble the finance, hire the key creative team and oversee the physical shoot from preparation through to delivery.
Behind the camera, Stan Spry, Henry Boger and Anthony Fankhauser are credited as producers. They are joined by Jeff Holland, Geoff Silverman, Slavkin and Swimmer as executive producers, a senior credit that often covers finance, rights or high-level creative oversight. Pam Mitchell is listed as co-producer, supporting the day-to-day work of getting the film made.
For audiences, this means a small ensemble built around two well-known leads. Suvari takes the central role of Abby, with Arquette opposite her as Gordy. Shouse adds an unknown element as the young woman at the edge of their story, while Rosende fills out a cast that leaves little room to hide. Horror-thrillers of this scale live or die on performance in close quarters.
With cameras set to roll in Winnipeg, further detail on plot, supporting cast and release plans will come from the production in due course.
