Cuba's reparto sound got its own spotlight at Billboard Latin Music Week on Oct. 20.

The session, titled "Reparto: Cuba's Modern-Day Soundscape," was the first panel devoted to the genre at the event, according to Billboard. It took place at the Faena Theater in Miami Beach. It was presented by EMM, Rami Records and Plus Media Music and moderated by Billboard associate editor Jessica Roiz.

The speakers were Bebeshito, Wow Popy, Helabusador, Rey Tony and DJ Conds. The discussion opened with a tribute to Elvis Manuel and El Taiger.

Helabusador offered a simple musical definition for newcomers. Reparto, he said, fuses salsa and reggaetón, drops the traditional dembow rhythm at the heart of reggaetón and adds a pedal effect. Reparto started in Cuban neighbourhoods and is built for dancing, with fast percussion and call-and-response vocals.

Lyrics were a central debate. Bebeshito said artists should gradually clean up their language to reach new listeners. The point was practical, not moral. Cleaner versions travel further on radio and playlists.

Wow Popy used the panel to talk about his upcoming album, Mundial. He said he spent more than a year making it, compared with a usual three-day process for a reparto album. The guest list includes Nelly, Farruko, Tito El Bambino and J Balvin.

The panel also pointed to numbers outside Cuba. A song by Rey Tony and Helabusador reached No. 1 in Chile, Ecuador and Peru. The same track reached No. 2 in Colombia and Bolivia and also charted in Spain, Argentina and the United States.

DJ Conds said that song broke through without a marketing campaign or promotional strategy. Fans found it first. That is rare in a business where playlist placement and paid promotion often decide what travels.

What makes this stand out is the industry attention around it. Universal Music Latino has launched a Reparto Music platform, and the Latin Music Week schedule also listed a "Wow Popy - Mundial Album Release Party" at Furia Rooftop.

For fans, this means more access. A genre once passed hand to hand now has panels, label support and cross-border collaborations.
