Western Australia and South Australia will meet in the AFL Origin match on Saturday, February 27, 2027, at Optus Stadium in Perth, the AFL has confirmed. The game starts at 4:40pm Perth time, which is 7:10pm in Adelaide and 7:40pm in Sydney and Melbourne.

AFL Origin is a state-versus-state match, with each side picked from players in that state. It is the AFL's version of a showpiece that pits home states against each other. AFL chief executive Andrew Dillon said the two states would reignite their rivalry next February.

It is a long wait for South Australia. The 2027 match will be the state's first Origin appearance in 28 years. Western Australia and South Australia have not met in an Origin match since 1998.

South Australia takes Victoria's place on the 2027 card. Victoria beat Western Australia by 36 points in Perth when the match returned in 2026. Victoria and Western Australia are scheduled to meet in 2028, and the AFL has also locked in South Australia's 2028 match against Victoria at Adelaide Oval.

The 2027 fixture also falls in a special year for South Australian football. It coincides with the 150th anniversary of the SANFL competition, the state league that feeds many of the state's AFL players. The SANFL is the state's top local competition below the AFL, and its clubs have produced players for decades.

Western Australia's government confirmed in July that Optus Stadium would host the Origin match again in 2027 and in 2029. The AFL's Origin page lists Western Australia as the host side in February 2027.

For fans, the date is set well ahead. Late February is peak summer in Perth and Adelaide, so the match will be played in warm evening conditions. Anyone planning to attend, or to watch from interstate, now has the start time and venue in writing.
