National Library and Archives NZ confirm 45 job cuts

The National Library and Archives NZ have confirmed job cuts that will remove 45 jobs, more than 11 percent of their workforce, according to RNZ.
The workforce is being reduced from 396.7 full-time equivalent (FTE) positions to 351.8 FTE. That is a cut of 44.9 FTE, or 11.3 percent. The proposal first put forward in September would have cut 46.9 FTE. Of the roles being disestablished, 38.2 FTE are vacant. The new structure takes effect on 30 November.
The restructure is led by National Librarian Te Pouhuaki Rachel Esson and Chief Archivist Poumanaaki Anahera Morehu. The stated aim is to reduce duplication and strengthen collaboration.
The changes were first proposed in early September. At that time, Waatea News reported that the restructure would cut around 12 percent of the workforce and affect staff across Wellington, Auckland, Christchurch and Dunedin. The Public Service Association (PSA), the union representing public servants, said the proposal would axe 47 FTE positions.
The PSA said the confirmed cuts would leave the workforce about 15 percent smaller than it was two years earlier. It criticised the decision, which was made despite opposition from choirs, orchestras, historians and staff.
