Fashion now drives more orders on Whatnot than any other product type, according to the live-shopping marketplace's own 2027 forecast. Whatnot's 2027 Consumer Trends Report, published on 20 October, says order volumes for fashion have doubled since 2025. On Whatnot, sellers present items on video and buyers bid and buy as the show runs.

The platform says more than 650,000 buyers join its live shows every week. Its collectibles, fashion and beauty sales totalled $8 billion last year, and the company plans to double that figure for 2026. The number of fashion sellers and buyers has also doubled year on year, with the strongest growth in women's contemporary clothing, vintage and luxury handbags.

Bags are a large part of that growth. Searches for Fendi Baguette bags, the Italian luxury house's small shoulder style, rose 320 percent on the platform. The Louis Vuitton Speedy, a handbag from the French label owned by LVMH, ranks among its top-selling bags. Live shows focused on luxury bags and accessories have drawn more than 150 million views so far in 2026. Whatnot expects Coach, the American accessories brand owned by Tapestry, to gain the most at accessible prices, and to keep its revival going into 2027.

Searches for fine materials are also climbing. Cashmere searches rose 140 percent and silk searches doubled. Searches for the Italian menswear and knitwear houses Brioni, Zegna, Brunello Cucinelli and Loro Piana rose 350, 340, 220 and 130 percent respectively. Tweed searches rose 120 percent and searches for Western styles rose 100 percent.

Skirts have a clear link to the runway. Prada's spring 2027 collection, designed by Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons, showed 63 skirts. Skirt searches on Whatnot rose 93 percent. The online marketplace eBay separately reported a 360 percent rise in global searches for "Prada skirt" in late September, with 22 and 23 September as its two biggest days of the year for Prada skirts, according to Vogue.

Beauty is growing fast too. Beauty orders on Whatnot tripled as shoppers looked for fragrances and K-beauty, the South Korean skin-care range that has gained a following abroad.

The report also forecasts a return of "McBling", a glamorous take on Y2K style. Y2K refers to fashion from around the year 2000. Whatnot expects it to bring back bold maximalism, bright colours and sparkle. Rhinestone searches rose 160 percent, as did searches for low-rise styles and tracksuits.

For Whatnot, the trends depend on the conversations behind them. The company says its sellers talk with buyers in real time for more than 560,000 hours, according to a LinkedIn post about the report. The full document also covers toys, games and other shopping categories.
