Supernatural has relaunched in Early Access through the Meta Horizon Store, and the app is now run by an independent company rather than Meta. According to The Verge, the subscription has risen from $9.99 per month to $20 per month or $200 per year.

Meta had previously said it would stop creating new content for the VR fitness title. The Next Web reported in June that Meta had spent about $400 million acquiring the app, fought the US government over that purchase, and then spun the business out as Supernatural Health, led by the original founders, after cutting Reality Labs investment. James Senior is CEO of the relaunched service, according to Engadget.

Early Access is a pre-release phase in which users can play while development continues. The Early Access build includes thousands of remastered workouts and a smaller set of new ones at launch. Engadget also reports hundreds of music tracks and a new virtual environment set on a glacial lake. The Verge reports that new workouts are planned every week, beginning the week after the relaunch. The company says it will bring back back-catalog favorites with new music, higher-definition environments and additional features over the coming weeks and months.

On price, Engadget notes that the $20 monthly and $200 annual rates match the subscription price when the app first launched in 2020. The move from $9.99 is roughly a doubling of the monthly rate. The annual tier also moves to the same $200 figure.

Players who used the original app can carry over their points, start date, streaks, favorites and badges to the new version through December 3. Meta's Quest store page for Supernatural states that the current experience is winding down on December 3, 2026. Founding members receive rewards, beginning with a custom bat, and more are planned during Early Access.

Several features are still in progress. Up to four people in one household can share a single headset. Supernatural Together, the multiplayer workout mode for exercising with friends, has been rebuilt from the ground up. Engadget reports it is still in a testing phase and not yet available to users of the relaunched app. The Verge reports that a mobile companion app for tracking progress and heart rate is in development.

The project has a longer timeline. Meta's Connect 2024 content recap said Supernatural Together would launch with Early Access in November 2024, as part of Within's expansion of Supernatural. UploadVR reported in September that the app would return to Meta Quest in fall 2026 and be enhanced for Meta VR glasses, and that it could be wishlisted in the Quest store before launch.

In my view, the central question for the relaunch is whether a smaller, independent studio can sustain a weekly content cadence at a price double the one players knew before. The answer depends on retention among existing users, who are being offered a migration path and founding-member incentives, and on whether the multiplayer and companion-app features reach users on the timelines described. Those dates are plans, not completed work.

The broader context here is that the app's history, from a standalone studio to a Meta acquisition to a spin-out, tracks the shifting economics of first-party VR content. Whatever the outcome, the relaunch keeps an established exercise format running on current hardware, with a cross-device roadmap and a per-headset household model that a single-player fitness app did not offer. For headset owners who trained with the original, the practical effect is a continued workout library with new music and environments, and a clear deadline for moving their progress over.
