ACT has set a target of 10,000 charter school enrolments by 2029, leader David Seymour announced in Auckland.

The party also has a goal of a charter school option in every major town. Its plan proposes increasing the conversion of suitable state and state-integrated schools into charter schools. It also proposes encouraging new charter schools where there is sufficient demand and a sufficient sponsor.

Seymour said all charter schools teaching years 3 to 10 met their maths achievement threshold, according to RNZ.

The Labour Party has pledged to abolish the charter school model.

ACT plans to report every year on its progress toward the target of 10,000 student enrolments by the end of 2029, the party said in its announcement on its website.

On education policy, National has promised to require students to stay in school until they finish Year 11 if re-elected, as reported by the New Zealand Herald.
