Alex Roe, Jack Topalian and Shakira Barrera Set for Feature The Ride

Alex Roe, Jack Topalian and Shakira Barrera are set to star in a feature-length version of The Ride, a film told entirely from the point of view of a car. Deadline reported the casting on 22 October 2026, as an exclusive.
The story follows a 1976 Plymouth as it looks back on its journey through the hands of one owner after another. The car is the narrator, so the audience sees the story through its eyes.
The feature grows out of a short film of the same name by Slava Denisov. The short was narrated by Ron Perlman and premiered at the LA Shorts International Film Festival. It was selected by more than 40 festivals and won 18 awards, according to Deadline.
Denisov and Grigory Borodavkin created the story, and Borodavkin is writing the script. Andrey Valentsov returns as cinematographer, the crew member who decides how each shot is framed and lit.
Denisov is producing alongside Daniel Shapovalov and Elena Serebryannaya of 552 Films, and Paul Tamasy. Elizaveta Menis, Alex Roe and Jack Topalian join Kico Velarde as executive producers. That credit usually goes to people who help secure money and oversee a project, rather than running the day-to-day shoot.
The feature was due to begin production in Los Angeles in autumn 2026.
For a short that spent its festival run collecting awards, the feature is the next step in a story that began on a much smaller scale.
