Bluesky has added beta support for iPads in its latest feature update, and the same release adds a Links section that lets users show external destinations at the top of their profiles.

The iPad support is labeled beta, meaning the build is still being refined before a full release. Users who want to report problems or suggest changes can do so through the Beta Features section of the Settings menu, according to Engadget. The update does not extend the feature to other form factors, so the tablet rollout applies to iPad only.

The profile change sits in the Edit Profile menu, which now includes a Links section for adding external sites. Once added, those links appear at the top of the profile for anyone who visits it. Bluesky framed the feature as a way for creators to connect their audiences to crowdfunding platforms such as Patreon or Ko-fi, which let supporters pay creators directly, or to websites and newsletters, per the same Engadget report.

Links to payment platforms receive distinct treatment. Bluesky displays them in green, according to The Verge, which reported the Profile Links feature on the same day.

For developers and product teams, the mechanics are straightforward. A profile now carries a set of user-curated external URLs, rendered in a fixed position, with payment destinations given a consistent color. The feature is a presentation layer, meaning it changes how existing profile data is displayed rather than adding a new identity or payments mechanism.

In my view, the color coding is the detail worth watching. Any social network that places commercial links on user profiles has to decide how much visual weight those links carry relative to the content around them. A green treatment for payment platforms makes the commercial nature of a link visible at a glance, which serves readers who want to know before they click. It also gives creators a recognizable cue for supporter links, which is the stated purpose of the feature.

The broader context here is the ongoing competition among text-based social platforms to serve creators as well as casual users. Newsletter and crowdfunding links are a common way for independent writers, illustrators and video makers to turn an audience into revenue. A profile that surfaces those destinations without a new post or a bio edit lowers that friction. Whether creator behavior on Bluesky actually shifts will depend on adoption.

The iPad beta and the Links section arrived together in one feature update, so users will see both changes as part of a single release. The beta label and the open feedback channel in Settings suggest Bluesky expects further iteration before the iPad experience is considered finished.
