Disney is developing a fifth Halloweentown film, Variety reported on 22 October 2026. The project is in early development, meaning it is still at an early stage and has not been given the go-ahead to be made.

Two writers, Lily Houghton and Ryan Koehn, are working on the script. The film is based on characters created by Paul Bernbaum, who also wrote the first Halloweentown film in 1998.

If the film is greenlit, which is the industry term for approved for production, it will air on Disney Channel and stream on Disney+. Those two outlets are the same ones that have carried the franchise for years, so a finished film would reach the audience it was built for.

The original movie starred Kimberly J. Brown, Joey Zimmerman, Judith Hoag and Debbie Reynolds. Duwayne Dunham directed it, and it became a regular fixture for a generation of family viewers who grew up watching it on television. The Hollywood Reporter later looked back at the cast and where they had gone since.

Development is the first and longest stage of making a television film. A writer or team writes a script, the studio decides whether to fund it, and then a production crew, actors and a director are hired. Many projects never get past the first stage, so an announcement like this one is a starting point rather than a release date.

For now, the fifth Halloweentown film exists as a writing project with a clear home on Disney's channel and streaming service. Any next step, whether a casting announcement, a green light or a premiere window, will come from Disney itself.
