The marketing team behind Ti West's film "Ebenezer" has opened a payment account in the name of its lead character, Ebenezer Scrooge. Variety reported the account on October 23, 2026.

Venmo is a payments app where people send money to one another, usually to split a bill or repay a friend. The account, a Scrooge profile on that app, is now open to the public. Anyone can look up the page and see who has paid it.

The official movie account promoted the Venmo page, which is linked from its online address at venmo.com/u/EBENEZERmovie. The public feed shows payments made to Scrooge, so the page is part of the film's marketing in a very direct sense. The stunt is aimed at the character's reputation. In Charles Dickens' 1843 novella "A Christmas Carol," Scrooge is famous for his tight grip on money, so a payment account in his name fits the story's joke.

Johnny Depp plays Scrooge in the film, which is a new take on Dickens' classic tale. Ti West directed it. Paramount Pictures is releasing it, and the studio has scheduled it for theatres on November 13. The official site says the film is brought to you by Paramount.

Paramount released the first full trailer for "Ebenezer" on October 1, according to Deadline. A Washington Times report from early October also covered Depp's return to the role, describing the film as a take on "A Christmas Carol." The official website, ebenezermovie.com, offers trailer viewing, a search for screenings near you and ticket booking.

Playful promotion of this kind is not new in film marketing. Studios often build small online events around a character or a title, hoping fans will share them. What makes this one stand out is the choice of a real payments app. Anyone with an account can send Scrooge money, and the public feed makes those transfers visible to everyone else.

For readers who want to see the film, the release date is now a little over three weeks away. The trailer and the ticket page are both on the official site. The Venmo page is a separate, public destination linked from the movie's own promotion.
