Newcastle Face Palace With Four Big Sales Behind Them and a Fresh Manager in Charge

Newcastle United have sold four players for big money, and they go into Sunday's trip to Crystal Palace with a new manager and a dip in form.
Alexander Isak left for Liverpool in a British record £125m deal. Bruno Guimaraes joined Arsenal for £75m. Sandro Tonali went to Tottenham Hotspur in a deal worth up to £100m, and Anthony Gordon moved to Barcelona for more than £69m, according to BBC Sport.
The changes started at the top. Eddie Howe stepped down at the end of July after five years in charge. His replacement, Matthias Jaissle, is German and has been trying to steady a squad that has been through a lot in a short time.
The results have been mixed. Newcastle have eight points from seven Premier League games, after winning two. They have lost three of their last four. The run includes a 4-1 defeat away to Leeds United on 14 September and a 4-1 defeat away to Coventry City on 12 October.
The mood turned sharper after the home defeat to Aston Villa last weekend. Supporters booed at the final whistle. Former striker Chris Sutton, now a pundit, said the club looked chaotic under Jaissle. That is his view, and it is a tough one to hear for a club trying to find its footing.
The next test is at Selhurst Park, where Crystal Palace play host on Sunday 25 October at 14:00 GMT. Sky Sports will broadcast the match live. A win would stop the slide and give Jaissle something to build on. A defeat would add to a run that already has the club looking for answers.
For Newcastle fans, there is also some news off the pitch. Sam Fender returns to St James' Park in June 2027. Eligible supporters can get access to the pre-sale from 9:30am on 29 October 2026, according to the club's website.
For casual fans, the simple version is this. Newcastle have lost important players, changed their manager, and struggled for results. Sunday will show whether the new coach can turn that around, one game at a time.
