One dead and four injured in shootings from a car in Trappes, southwest of Paris

A gunman who fired from a car in several locations southwest of Paris on October 23, 2026, killed one person and wounded four others before he was arrested. The New York Times reported that the gunman fired at random.
The attacks took place in Trappes, a town southwest of the French capital. RTL reported that a young girl was shot eight times during the shooting.
Because of the nature of the case, France's anti-terrorist prosecutor's office, the national body that leads terrorism investigations, has taken it up. La Tribune and Mediapart reported the referral.
RTL reported that investigators were treating a terrorist crime with a racist motive as the leading line of inquiry. Trappes mayor Ali Rabeh said he would not say anything definitive yet about a possible racist motive for the shooter.
