Liam Hood has signed a one-year contract extension with Castleford Tigers, keeping the Scotland international at the Super League club for next season. Super League is the top flight of men's rugby league in England, the 13-a-side code that uses six tackles to move the ball rather than rucks and mauls.

Hood is 34 and plays as a hooker. In league, the hooker wears the number nine shirt and works in the middle of the front row, where close-quarter contact is constant. BBC Sport reported that he scored four tries in 17 appearances in all competitions last season.

Hood is the second Tigers player in a week to agree a new deal for next season. Ashton Golding also signed a two-year extension with the club.

Chris Chester, Castleford's director of rugby, the man in charge of the playing side, spoke highly of Hood. He described him as an experienced player who brings composure, leadership and a winning mentality to the squad.

Hood first joined the Tigers on a one-year deal ahead of the 2026 season, with an option for a further year. The club's own announcement confirms the new deal under the headline "Hood extends Tigers stay".

For a club, keeping experienced players is often about more than one name on a team sheet. Senior figures like Hood are the ones younger teammates look to in training and in tight moments on the pitch. Castleford now have two signings settled ahead of the next campaign, and the next step is seeing how the squad shapes up around them.
