AFC Wimbledon assistant manager Terry Skiverton has been diagnosed with throat cancer and is due to start treatment in the coming weeks, the club has said.

Skiverton joined the club in May 2022 as assistant to manager Johnnie Jackson. An assistant manager works alongside the head coach on training, team selection and match preparation, and often spends the most time with the squad day to day.

He was part of the staff that helped Wimbledon win promotion to League One in 2025. That promotion came through the play-offs, a run of end-of-season matches that decides the final promotion place.

Skiverton has been away from his duties before. In July he said he would step back to recover from ankle surgery, and the club expected him to be absent for several weeks. He had also come back from a serious injury earlier in his career, a double fracture of the shin that he recovered from within five or six months.

This time the fight is a different one, and he has not faced it alone. The League Managers Association, the body that represents managers and coaches, has been supporting him in recent months.

AFC Wimbledon said it will continue to stand alongside Skiverton and his family throughout his treatment and recovery. The club has not set a date for his return to work, and no timetable has been given for the treatment itself.

For supporters, the message from the club is simple. The staff and players have a colleague to think about, and a long road ahead for him and his family.
