Spanish Debut "Salen las lobas" Gets International Sales Team Ahead of Valladolid Premiere

MoreThan Films has taken international sales rights to "Salen las lobas" ("The Bitch Pack"), a Spanish coming-of-age drama that will have its world premiere at the Valladolid Film Festival on Oct. 25, Variety reported.
International sales rights let a company sell a film to cinemas, streamers and broadcasters outside its home country. The deal means MoreThan Films will be the one approaching those buyers once the film is finished and seen by audiences.
The film marks the feature debut of director Claudia Estrada Tarascó. She spent four years researching the experiences of girls in juvenile detention before writing it. Her sister, Valeria Estrada Tarascó, plays Luna, the lead role.
The festival, Spain's Seminci, runs its 71st edition from Oct. 23 to 31. "Salen las lobas" is in the Meeting Point competition, a section for new filmmakers, and it also appears in Seminci Joven, the festival's youth-oriented programme.
The film is produced by Alba Sotorra and is the first feature from her new company, Oceanika. It is a Spain-Belgium-Denmark co-production, made with Spain's Vampire Films, Belgium's Novak Prod and Denmark's Paloma Productions. Before the premiere, it also won the best fiction project award at the Atlàntida Film Fest.
Money for the film came from several public and regional funders. Eurimages, the Council of Europe's fund, backs it, as do the Creative Europe MEDIA programme of the European Union, Spain's ICAA film institute and the ICEC in Catalonia.
Spanish plans are already set. Silencio Cinema will release the film in cinemas across Spain on Dec. 11. Filmin, a Spanish streaming service, is attached, and the public broadcaster RTVE is also on board.
MoreThan Films is led by Queralt Pons and works from offices in Barcelona, Berlin and São Paulo. Festivals such as Valladolid are a common place for sales companies to meet buyers, and a premiere there often sets the first conversations about where a film will play next.
For the Estrada Tarascó sisters, the premiere is the first time the film will meet an audience. For the producers, it is the point where the film's journey from script to screen gets its first public test, and where the sales team begins its work.
