AARP Presents Tito Nieves With Legacy Award in Miami Beach

Salsa musician Tito Nieves received the Latin Music Legacy Award from AARP on October 19, 2026, at Billboard's Latin Power Players event at the Faena Theater in Miami Beach, Florida. Billboard reported that Nelson Albareda presented the award.
AARP was an official partner of Billboard Latin Music Week 2026, the industry gathering that ran from October 19 to 22. The organisation, which campaigns for people over 50, put its name on a panel that day as well.
The panel was called "Salsa Revival: Bridging Generations," presented by AARP. It took place onstage at Faena Forum in Miami Beach on October 19. Nieves and Luis Figueroa took part together, and Billboard reported that the two discussed salsa's legacy and its future.
Salsa has a long history in Latin music, and the week also looked at where listeners are now. Leila Cobo, Billboard's co-chief content officer, told the ceremony that one in every 10 streams is now in Spanish. That is double the share recorded six years ago, she said, citing data from Luminate, a company that tracks music consumption. Billboard carried her remarks.
The week's final lineup, published on October 6, also listed Rubén Blades, Anthony Ramos and Lenny Tavárez as participants.
The week closed with the 2026 Billboard Latin Music Awards, which aired live on October 22 at 8 p.m. Eastern Time.
For many people, a legacy award is a single moment on a single night. This one sat between a panel about where salsa has been and a set of numbers about where Spanish-language listening is going. Both threads ran through the same four days in Miami Beach.
