Netflix has offered Xbox US$500 million for exclusive rights to turn Xbox video games into films and TV shows over seven years. Xbox has asked for US$800 million for the same deal, according to a report by Puck News reporter Matt Belloni, which Eurogamer covered on 23 October 2026.

An exclusive licence means only one company can use the rights for the agreed period. Under this proposal, Netflix would be the only streaming service able to adapt Xbox games for the screen during those seven years.

The two companies already work together. Netflix and Xbox are developing animated series based on Minecraft and Diablo, according to Eurogamer's report.

Netflix's links to Xbox go back further. Deadline reported in November 2022 that Netflix had landed rights to Gears of War, with a feature film and an animated series in development. Eurogamer's report says a live-action Gears of War film is now in the works.

Xbox told Puck News that it had received record-breaking interest in its IP, the characters and worlds behind its games. It also called Netflix a valued partner.

The push comes as Microsoft builds out its screen business. In October 2026, Microsoft launched an XP Division that includes Xbox Pictures, a unit focused on film and TV adaptations of its games, according to Deadline.

The gap between the two figures is US$300 million. Netflix's offer and Xbox's asking price both cover the same seven years and the same type of rights.
