Israeli forces have launched a "targeted and thorough" military operation in Hebron, a Palestinian city in the occupied West Bank, after a shooting attack that killed two Israeli soldiers. The operation was reported on October 24, 2026, the day after the attack.

The shooting took place on October 23 and left three other Israeli soldiers injured. Two Palestinian gunmen opened fire at a checkpoint at an exit from Hebron. Times of Israel reported that Israeli troops measured the homes of the two gunmen in Hebron on October 24.

Reuters reported that Israeli troops shot dead both gunmen. According to Israel, the two suspected shooters were armed with an M16 rifle and a handgun. NBC News reported that both were Palestinians from Hebron.

Israel also ordered a closure of the West Bank after the attack, a measure that restricts movement across the territory. OPB carried the same report.

The attack came days before Israeli elections, in which security has been a central focus, according to France 24.
