Tottenham Hotspur beat Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, and the afternoon ended with a red card for Cole Palmer and a goal the home side will want to forget.

The Premier League match kicked off at 5.30pm. Chelsea's usual goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez, was injured, so Mike Penders started in goal. He is 21 and it was his first Premier League start. Geovany Quenda also made his first Chelsea start, taking the place of Joao Pedro.

Penders's day went badly wrong. He punched the ball into his own net, an own goal, which is credited to the opposing side. Mathys Tel scored in the 87th minute to seal the win for Tottenham.

Palmer's afternoon ended early. He was booked for pushing over Fernandes, then sent off for a late tackle on Gallagher. A red card means a player must leave the pitch, and his team must finish the game with one fewer man.

The BBC's player ratings gave Palmer and Penders 4 out of 10. Moises Caicedo earned 8, and Pedro Neto got 7.

Tottenham's win was only their second at Stamford Bridge in 42 visits, according to the same BBC report. Spurs have rarely left west London with points, so the result will be a welcome one for their supporters.

For Chelsea, the defeat is a difficult one to take at home. A missing keeper, a debut in goal and a sending-off in the same match is a lot to absorb in one afternoon. Penders now has a first Premier League start to learn from, and the coaching staff will be looking at how the team holds together when the numbers and the nerves are against it.

For Spurs, the result is a reminder of how much a clean sheet and a late goal can count for. Tel's strike arrived when the home side were still searching for a way back, and it gave the away fans a finish to remember.
