'The Crawling' Premieres at FilmQuest in Provo

A cosmic horror film called The Crawling had its world premiere on Friday, Oct. 23, at the FilmQuest festival in Provo, Utah, according to Variety.
The film is the debut feature of writer-director Christian Everhard. Deadline first reported the casting in October 2025, when Will Brittain and Katherine Hughes were set to play the leads.
The story follows a married couple, Mike and Emma, who go on vacation to a remote house. One night Mike is woken by bright lights and an alien being. Brittain plays Mike, a police officer who is on suspension after assaulting a suspect. Hughes plays Emma.
The creature effects were designed by Steve Wang and Cleve Gunderman of Onyx Forge, the effects studio named in Variety's coverage. Practical creature work of this kind, built and performed on set rather than added later on a computer, is a common choice for low-budget horror.
FilmQuest lists the film under three genres: horror, science fiction and comedy. The festival describes it as a cosmic psychological horror film. The premiere screening was on the schedule for Friday at 8:00 PM.
FilmQuest runs from Oct. 22 to 31, and this year marks its 13th annual edition. For a film at its first public showing, a festival premiere is a chance to find an audience and draw the attention of buyers and distributors. Festivals of this size are often where independent films first show their work to strangers, and where their next steps begin.
Nothing else has been announced about where or when the film will be released. Anyone who wants to see it will need to watch for future screenings or distribution news.
