Elden Ring Movie Budget Reportedly Near US$200 Million

A24's live-action Elden Ring movie is reportedly set to cost almost US$200 million. The figure comes from a Wall Street Journal report, as Eurogamer relayed it on 25 October 2026.
If the number holds, Elden Ring would be the most expensive film A24 has ever made. A24 is the independent studio behind a run of acclaimed, mid-sized releases. Variety identified Marty Supreme as A24's most expensive film in January, and that film reportedly cost around US$70 million. IGN put the reported Elden Ring budget at almost three times that figure.
The number is also higher than earlier estimates. In April, The Hollywood Reporter reported that the budget was well over US$100 million. That same report said the film was planned for around 100 days of principal photography, the main block of filming when the core scenes are shot.
Alex Garland is writing and directing the adaptation. He also made Civil War, which cost about US$50 million, according to the same Eurogamer report. Garland's name is the one most closely tied to the project's creative direction, and his film history is a useful yardstick for the scale being discussed.
The movie is being shot for IMAX, the large-format screen system known for its tall, wide images. It is scheduled for cinemas on 3 March 2028.
Adapting a video game is not new for Hollywood. Recent game-based films have ranged from modest budgets to large studio productions, and the Elden Ring project sits at the expensive end of that range. The budget could change before cameras roll for the full shoot.
For now, the story is a big number, a long shoot and a date that is still more than two years away. The next confirmed detail will be the one that counts.
